The origin story featuring The Clown Prince of Crime, Joker, will hit cinemas in October this year and, as confirmed by director Todd Phillips, it will be rated R.

Todd recently shared a photo on his Instagram account as Arthur Fleck/Joker with the caption “Finishing Touches” indicating that the film is already in post-production and will soon be ready for release.

Finishing touches.

When a fan asked about the MPPA (Motion Picture Association of America) rating of the film in the comments section of the post, Philipps simply replied “It will be Rated R. I’ve been asked this a lot. Just assumed people knew. Sorry.”

Because the origin story of Joker is in fact a tragic one – full of violence and hate, an R rating makes perfect sense. The past experiences of Arthur Fleck as a clown play a big role in his transformation into The Harlequin of Hate.

Joker will be released in cinemas on October 3, 2019.
