PCSO Gears Up for Typhoon Betty Relief Drive

Taking a hands on stance in anticipation of possible devastation to be caused by Typhoon Betty, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos on Saturday has instructed all concerned agencies to prepare for massive relief operations on would be affected areas.

Among those tapped is the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office( PCSO) which has expressed its readiness in conducting its own relief operations.

In response, PCSO General Manager Mel Robles has instructed branch offices and Small Town Lottery Authorized Agency Centers (STL AACs) in Northern Luzon to prepare for the distribution of aid for families that would be affected by the typhoon.

“We understand the importance of preparedness, and our branch offices will be in constant coordination with local organizations and government units for effective response and distribution of assistance,” GM Robles said.

PCSO’s proactive measures are in compliance with PBBM’s directive to spare no effort in assisting possible victims of Typhoon Betty.

“We have a direct presence in the provinces or towns and are in contact with parallel organizations that can assist the local government units to ensure timely distribution of relief services and necessities to the affected communities.

PCSO Main Office in Mandaluyong City has earlier prepared thousands of food packs aside from the sacks of rice and relief goods positioned in its branch offices in Cagayan and Benguet; and STL AACs in Baguio, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Iloocs Norte, La Union, Kalinga and Olongapo.

“We will continuously monitor and assess the situation to ensure that our aid efforts are aligned with the needs of the affected communities,” GM Robles explained.

Through its Medical Assistance Program (MAP), the Agency provides medical assistance to individuals injured or hospitalized during a calamity or disaster.

In addition, the PCSO appropriates calamity funds to assist affected communities to help them get back on their feet after the devastating effects of this natural calamity.

The PCSO’s relief initiatives are in fulfillment of its mandate as the government’s principal charitable arm.
