Disney announces future Star Wars movie skeds

The new movie inclusions in the Star Wars franchise will be released the weekend before Christmas every two years. So basically, the movies will land on the 16th of December, 2022, the 20th of December 2024 and on the 18th of December 2026.

The movies don’t have working titles as of the moment and the storyline of the films are yet to be released. But one thing is for sure, these films will be outside of the nine Star Wars films which are dubbed as the ‘Skywalker Saga’ – which includes all the main films of the said franchise including the upcoming movie, The Rise of Skywalker.

Game of Thrones show runners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are reportedly going to be write this new trilogy, alongside  director of The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson who, according to reports, is working on the new films that will be released after the main films.

To confirm this, Lucas film Kathleen Kennedy said back in 2017, “We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi. He’s a creative force and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career.

“Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

She also says that “David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

Weiss and Benioff responded to this statement: “In the summer of 1977 we travelled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honoured by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

The next few years looks really exciting for the Star Wars franchise.
