Lucifer is coming back?

Ok, we know that he’s come and gone.

And yes we did say, “Lucifer”.

But that’s the thing. When an actor is so well associated with a role that has been played very well and is beloved by fans, we find that it’s hard to disassociate them with any other role and frequently they are called by that role’s name more instead of their own.

We could name a few, but in this case, we are referring to Tom Ellis, aka. Lucifer.

The streaming giant Netflix has proved to be the behemoth that it is when its own content started getting views and when it swooped down like an angel and picked up the canceled show from FOX and turned Lucifer into the hit show that it is.

Although the show itself has ended and can still be streamed on Netflix, we’d gather that Tom’s gratitude for the streaming giant knows no bounds, as he is currently working with them on a new project.

The new project is actually a series that is based on the popular game called Exploding Kittens.

While we’re sure Tom’s alter ego wouldn’t mind being on a show like that and would most likely take over, the show is based on the “card game for people who like kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats”.

For fans eagerly awaiting more shots of a shirtless Lucifer, (even I call him that),  they would be disappointed this time around as the show is an animated series and will be naturally an adult comedy, with King of the Hill creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels as the prime movers behind the show.

The premise reads as follows: “The eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth — in the bodies of chunky house cats.”

In a surprising turn of casting, Tom Ellis will be playing God Cat,  Sasheer Zamata from the show, Home Economics, has been cast as Devil Cat, Abraham Lin from The Boys and Ally Maki from Cloak and Dagger will be playing a pair of siblings, while Lucy Liu will be playing their mother.

The Exploding Kittens game debuted in 2015 after a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign and has released a few expansions since then.

It’s had app versions on smartphones and Nintendo Switch, with this new one expected to launch next month.

The new version of the game is expected to have no additional fees or in-app purchases, but you will need to log in with a Netflix subscriber account to play.
