Ariana Grande made a generous donation to Planned Parenthood (PP) in the rouse of Georgia passing a “fatal heartbeat” abortion law last month.

The award-winning singer donated a portion of the proceeds of her sold-out show last June 8 in Atlanta to PP in the wake calls for a boycott of the state according to Planned Parenthood’s statement.  The president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Dr. Leana Wen said that “Ariana Grande’s generous donation comes at a critical time — in Georgia and across the country, anti-women’s health politicians are trying to ban all safe, legal abortion.” The donation was an estimated $250,000.

“This is not what the American people want, nor is it something they’ll stand for,” Wen added. “Thanks to inspiring support like hers, Planned Parenthood can continue to fight back — in the courts, in Congress, in state houses, and in the streets — against these dangerous attacks on people’s health and lives. We are so grateful to Ariana for her longstanding commitment to supporting women’s rights and standing with Planned Parenthood to defend access to reproductive health care. We won’t stop fighting — no matter what.”

Other artists also joined the protest.  Billie Ellish called the law “unbelievable,” Matty Healy of The 1975 decried it during their show in Alabama, John Legend spoke about the potential boycotts of Georgia, Louisiana and Alabama and other states with newly restrictive abortion laws last June 11, saying that “it’s a conversation that needs to be had.”  Halsey teamed up with the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) to raise awareness in support of abortion rights. Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Selena Gomez and other artists have also voiced their disagreement to the restrictive abortion laws in Alabama and Missouri.
