Netflix has released the first trailer of its forthcoming adaptation of King Henry V by William Shakespeare titled The King.

The first trailer sees Timothee Chalamet as Hal, the reluctant heir to the English throne who is living among everyday people after turning his back on royalty.

Hal becomes Henry V and is forced to deal with the checkered legacy of his father – including war and political turmoil – after the death of his tyrannical ruler father.

The film will also star Joel Edgerton as the troubled knight John Falstaff who is Henry’s closest and most trusted adviser.

Netflix’s The King will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 2 and will also be released in selected cinemas in both the UK and North America, heightening its chances to be an Oscar contender.
