“The Others” gets a remake

If the current pandemic situation that we are experiencing has stalled everything and provided delays for all sectors of different industries, it definitely has not stopped the film industry from planning and greenlighting which movie should be done next or which flick deserves a remake.

Almost twenty years since the film was first released and scared audiences out of their seats, the 2001 film, “The Others” that starred Academy-award winner Nicole Kidman and Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) has been given the go-signal for a remake.

In the film, Nicole plays a widow who hides her children away on account of their sensitivity to light, a condition that is played out as a disease in the film. And so the best condition for her children is to stay indoors. Not much different from what most of us are doing. The only difference is that they soon discover that the house that they have been confined to and is supposed to keep them safe is haunted!

Apparently, the new version will be modernized and re-invented in addition to getting an official release date.

“It is almost eerie and uncanny how timely the themes are today: self-isolation, paranoia and fear, and of course the intense desire to protect our children and ourselves from harm,” Kidman said of the film as applied to our current situation. “We look forward to unraveling the layers behind the lead character Grace, and whose pain and demons draw viewers into a truly compassionate journey.”

In addition, there is no confirmation if Nicole herself will be in the film or will be involved in it to a certain degree.

For the moment,  she is set to star in the six-episode TV thriller The Undoing, which also stars Hugh Grant. It is based on the novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz. This six-part series sees Kidman reunite with Big Little Lies and Picket Fences writer/creator, David E Kelley in this new project.

Unfortunately, along with many exciting TV projects, The Undoing‘s release has been postponed to later this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
