‘The Little Mermaid’ Live-Action coming…

The live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid has found more well-known celebrities to bring its classic characters to life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, chosen by Disney to be added in the list of casts is 12-year-old Room star Jacob Tremblay and Cray Rich Asians actress Awkwafina.

Tremblay will play the new version of Ariel’s trusted companion Flounder, who was first voiced by Jason Marin in the classic animated version.

To play a gender-swapped version of seagull Scuttle is Awkwafina, but they are still in negotiations with her for the role. Scuttle was voiced by the late stand-up comedian Buddy Hackett in the original Little Mermaid.

According to Variety, the two-time Academy Award nominee Melissa McCarthy was in talks with Disney about joining director Rob Marshall in his live-action remakes. She is being considered to play Ursula, Ariel’s enemy in the animated film.

One of the major changes that Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall hinted that one of the major changes in the live-action film was adding some new songs to Little Mermaid, on top of the Academy Award-winning soundtrack from Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.

“We’re working on, in a way, fleshing out The Little Mermaid – Ariel has one song in the animated film – and so we’re looking for maybe more material,” he said.

Included in his songwriting team is Little Mermaid veteran Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who got an Oscar nomination for writing ‘How Far I’ll Go’ for Disney’s Moana.

Details about the release of the live-action remake are still unknown.
