#TECH947: Joyroom JR-TL1 wireless earphones

You’ve probably noticed so many wireless earphones and ear buds locally available, this time we have a close look at the Joyroom JR-TL1. In the box are the ear phones, a plastic charging case with a lanyard, an extra pair of ear tips, a mirco usb charging cable and an owner’s manual.

The earphones are small and fit snug into your ears.  It comes with two sizes of ear tips which effectively block out outside noise, you’ll need to make sure that it’s a secure fit as that is the only thing holding it in your ear.

The earphones power on automatically when taken out of the case and power off when returned to the charging case. The case charges the earphones when in storage, the battery capacity of the charging case is 300 mAh which will allow you to recharge when you’re out. There is a charge indicator on the case to let you know when the case itself will finally need recharging.

It’s waterproof with an IPX7 rating, allowing it to be used outdoors without fear of damaging it in rain or sweat during workout . This rating means it can be submerged to a depth of 1 meter for 30 minutes before any damage happens.

It connects via Bluetooth 5.0 which is faster or almost no delay, transmits further and consumes less power. Once paired with your device, when you put them on, you’ll hear a chime and a dull thud to audibly indicate that you’re connected to your device. There are LED’s on the outer side of the earphones which glow red when not connected or charging, these turn to pulsing blue when connected. They will automatically reconnect to your device when they’re taken out of their charging case.

The earphones are touch controlled, the outer side where the LED indicator is touch sensitive. Play/Pause is one tap on either earphone, to skip forward, tap the right earphone twice, to go back a track, tap the left earphone twice. To answer calls, touch either earphone for a second, to drop a call, touch for two seconds. Three taps will wake Siri or Google Assistant.

We listened to some songs to see how these earphones fared, with the EQ on my iphone 8 plus set to flat, we listened to “Meco Monardo’s Star Wars and Other Galactic Funk,” the JR-TL1’s had tight lows, and it reproduced the mids and highs quite well.  Next we tried The Magnificent Seven by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra from the Round Up compilation album. It was able to reproduce all the low frequencies, but we noticed it lacked some brightness in the mids and highs, but overall everything was clear and surprisingly good, especially for earphones in this price range. Remember we set the EQ to flat, so you can tweak the audio, to get the sound you want. It was comfortable to wear for long periods and they were light enough you forget you had them on.
