Star Wars: Racer making a comeback

Attention Nintendo Switch and PS4 Gamers.

If gaming is all some did during this period of social distancing and lockdown, you probably are right and with the upcoming release for both Nintendo and Playstation, there will be more reasons for gamers to stay home, quarantine or not, and most especially if you are a Star Wars fan.

Inspired by the debatable Pod-racing sequence in The Phantom Menace, the game Star Wars Episode 1: RACER is being re-released on Nintendo Switch and on Playstation 4 next month. The exhilarating game, which was originally released on the Nintendo 64 will be making a comeback to attract new fans to the Star Wars gaming universe or just provide nostalgia for the ones who have loved it since day one.

The game features 20 different racers, all of which are raring to compete in the most dangerous, and high-octane vehicle death race in the galaxy. Players can actually choose to play as little Anakin Skywalker, Sebulba, Ben Quadrinaros, Clegg Holdfast, Cy Yunga, Dud Bolt, and various other hilarious or nefarious-looking aliens from the Star Wars universe.

Developers Aspyr and Lucasfilm are bringing the classic game to the new consoles with modernized controls, which if you have played it before might just help you swerve those massive chunks of rock that sometimes get in your way.

Producer James Vicari was asked why he wanted to bring the game back and he said that “good games should never be forgotten and great games deserve to be revisited as much as possible.”

Vicari adds that like Racer, other Star Wars games like Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast before it, has two crucial qualities going for it and that it is a great game and has emotional resonance.  I so agree.

“Those are very important to us. We really believe in reuniting fans with something they cherish or connecting a new audience with something they may have missed.”

Speaking of Jedi Academy, fans and gamers would be happy to know that it was also re-released on the Nintendo Switch. You can purchase it for $22 in the US, or £17.99 from Nintendo right now.

Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer will be re-released on May 12 on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
