Release date confirmed for ‘Tomb Raider’ sequel

The sequel to the 2018’s Tomb Raider remake, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, has a confirmed release date and it’s director has already been named.

According to Deadline, Vikander, an Oscar-winning actress, will reprise her role as Lara Croft in the unnamed sequel of Tomb Raider which will premiere on March 19, 2021.

Succeeding Roar Uthaug as director is Ben Wheatley, an acclaimed English filmmaker who’s known for Kill List, Sightseers and Free Fire and has been part of a few episodes of Doctor Who starring Peter Capaldi. Penning the script is Wheatley’s wife, Amy Jump who also was the scriptwriter on his films Kill List, A Field in England and High-Rise.

The Tomb Raider that wa released last year was based on the 2013 video game which centered on Croft’s attempt to solve the mystery of the disappearance of her father. The first adaptation of the long-running video game was back in 2001 with Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft.
