“Outbreak” turned 25

If in case you weren’t aware at the beginning of our own lockdown, there was a film that mirrored the very same or at least that’s how it was presented onscreen when it opened in 1995, the conditions that we are currently experiencing brought about by the pandemic that is Covid-19.

This film boasts of who-who in Hollywood such as Dustin Hoffman, Rene Russo, Morgan Freeman and Cuba Gooding, Jr.

That film was Outbreak.

The drama as described by Netflix (Yes, you can watch or re-watch it there), “In this doomsday thriller, an Army virologist tries to thwart a global biological meltdown in the form of a killer virus infesting a California town.”

Doesn’t seem to be too similar from what we’re currently going through right?

The film is an adaptation of the nonfiction novel, “The Hot Zone: A Terrifying True Story” written Richard Preston. The movie at that time garnered good reviews, however, the conditions surrounding the event were considered farfetched and not that plausible. (Well, not anymore)

“Outbreak” is currently available on different platforms that offer streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play and Vudu.

Outbreak celebrated 25 years last month when it was released on March 10, 1995.
