The studio behind the upcoming Lord of the Rings action-adventure video game spin-off The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment, has announced that the game will be released in 2021.

Further details about the said game ware shared through an interview with Edge magazine, with its progress and design on the game focusing on Gollum himself.

To give the character greater emotional depth, the studio added details on Gollum’s look for the gamers to be able to empathize with the character more in the game than in the movies.

“Tolkien didn’t give a size reference for Gollum to begin with,” art director Mathias Fisher said about the aim of Daedalic in terms of visuals. “So in the first illustrations, he’s gigantic! He’s like a monster emerging from the swamp.”

Senior producer Kai Fiebig added that the studio doesn’t “want to displease the folks who have only seen the movies. But in short, he doesn’t look like Andy Serkis.”

Gollum was played by Serkis in the said film series.

Since Daedalic have an extensive contract with the franchise, more Middle Earth games could possibly be developed.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available next year for next-gen consoles which includes PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC.
