Harry Styles declines role in ‘The Little Mermaid’

Harry Styles was reportedly pitched for the role of Prince Eric in the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s animated classic ‘The Little Mermaid’ last month. But the former One Direction singer has declined the said role.

Despite being a fan of the project, Styles turned down the role of Ariel’s love interest – which Ariel will be played by Halle Bailey – according to The Wrap. Variety then noted that the studio is currently looking for other actors to take the role.

Styles made his debut in the big screen in the war drama of Christopher Nolan titled Dunkirk. The pop star was also shortlisted to play The King in the upcoming biopic of Elvis Presley directed by Baz Luhrmann, but the role went to Austin Butler.

Rob Marshall is directed by The Little Mermaid and written by David Magee. The upcoming remake will include original songs from the 1989 classic, and will alco include new songs from original composer Alan Menken with lyrics by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
