Adam Lambert wants to play George Michael

There is no denying that the world suffered a great loss when George Michael passed away on Christmas day back in 2016. His music and his songs have certainly been covered and sung and revised by many a singer.  He was and will always be loved.

So is it time for a biopic that sets the record straight with regards to his life and lifelong dreams?

Queen frontman and American Idol Season 8 finalist, Adam Lambert certainly feels that it is.

Speaking to Metro magazine in the UK, he feels that there is still much that the public doesn’t know and would want to know about the late singer’s life. He adds that having 2 films already made about rock legends, Freddie Mercury and Elton John via Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, respectively, the trifecta of biopics about openly gay musical icons will certainly be accomplished if a movie ever gets made.

When he was asked about who he thinks can play the role, he jokingly replied, “I’d give it a go.”

Lambert, himself who is a theater veteran, is certainly no stranger to being a frontliner in the performing arts. In fact, he has a very easy to miss cameo in Bohemian Rhapsody. That alone, if allowed to give it much credence, gives him some experience in the musical biopic format.

Now, for others, however, the perfect re-telling of George Michael’s life has already been explored in Kevin Bishop’s comedic portrayal of him in the gone-but-not-forgotten Channel 4 series Star Stories. The whole series has actually been officially uploaded to YouTube for everyone to watch for free. Come to think of it, this may be an ideal escape if you’re currently in self-isolation.

But the final say for sure will still be George Michael’s family. Whether they feel its time to tell their son’s story or even if they even want to open another can of worms, that decision ultimately lies with them.

In the meantime, we certainly have George Michael’s music to keep us company for the time being. Christmas season or not, his life and musical accomplishments will never be just a careless whisper.

George Michael was part of the British Pop duo called WHAM, with Andrew Ridgely back in 1981  until he decided to pursue a solo career. He has 4 American Music Awards, a Billboard Music Award for his solo debut album, “Faith”, 5 Brit Awards, 2 Grammy Awards for Best Album and Best duet with Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, an MTV Europe Music Award and 6 of the much-coveted, Ivor Novella awards given annually in London by the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters.

Some of his notable hits apart from the seasonal favorite, “Last Christmas” are “Bad Boys”, “Club Tropicana”, “Faith”, “Father Figure”, “Kissing A Fool”, “Praying For Time”, “Freedom”, “One More Try”, “Too Funky”, “Fastlove”, and “Amazing”.
